When working at the Front Desk it is your responsibility to answer phone calls, check out materials, answer questions from users that approach the Front Desk, and keep the front area clean and organized.
At least one lab aide must be in the Distribution Center/Front Desk at all times. The lab aide computer in the Distribution Center/ Front Desk is used for special projects assigned by the supervisor. No other use of this computer is acceptable without the supervisor’s approval. Log all problems with computers, printers and other peripheral equipment in the ACC Problem Report book, also known as the “Blue Book”, located in the Distribution Center/Front Desk. Be specific when logging problems, for example, report what error message is being displayed.
Headphones, CD’s, extension cords, etc., are available in the ACC. These materials must not leave the ACC at any time. To check out materials, students must give you either a valid Illinois State Drivers License, or a valid Illinois State ID. If they do not have an ID, then their car keys will be accepted. Use the “Check Out Sheet” to write down the information needed, give the user the material and place their ID in the “Picture ID and Index Card” box.
When the person returns the material, put the material in the correct location and give the user back their ID. Place a check mark in the appropriate box on the “Check Out Sheet”, and also have the user initial the appropriate box stating that they received their ID back.
When working open lab, it is your responsibility to help students with computer/printer related problems, as well as to enforce the ACC rules.
Circle around the lab. You are basically looking for two things: disorganized stations and users that are not following our rules.
Clean Stations:
Enforce ACC Rules:
Remember that students use ACC for schoolwork. If someone is disturbing others, kindly ask them to stop. If you encounter continuous problems with a user, notify a supervisor and call Public Safety. Also remember to remain calm and courteous.
When working the walk shift, walk two circles around the ACC. On the first circle, check attendance only. Check to make sure that each room is either locked or has a class in it. If there is a class, circle the half hour on the walk sheet. If the walk sheet says there is a class scheduled, but the room is empty, then put an X in the half hour.
On the second circle, clean any rooms that have been used by a class and will have another class in them that day:
If no other class is scheduled
in the room for the rest of the day, then follow the same procedure; only
shut the computers down rather than logging them off.
