Cleaning is done every quarter. Lab Aides are responsible for keeping computer workstations neat and clean.

Checklists for each classroom are printed by the supervisors each quarter. In order to make sure every workstation is cleaned thoroughly; lab aides must check each task as it is completed. Cleaning is done during the “Project” rotation.

There is a correct method to cleaning each part of the workstation

Tabletop

a.       Move keyboard, monitor, mouse and mouse pad aside.

b.      Spray all-purpose cleaner

c.       Rub the entire surface with the cloth

d.      Spend extra time cleaning dirtier parts where there has been a spill or markings from pen or pencil.

Underdesk

a.       Take the gum scraper and scrape any pieces of gum that may be stuck under the desk.

b.      Spray all-purpose cleaner on your cloth and rub the areas where you scraped and all other areas beneath the desk.

c.       Pull the CPU out of the compartment where it is stored.

d.      Spray cleaner and clean out all dust and garbage from this compartment.

Monitor

a.       Spray glass cleaner on a cloth away from the computer.

b.      Rub the cloth with glass cleaner on the monitor to clean any smudges and fingerprints.

c.       Using all-purpose cleaner, rub the casing of the monitor. You may need to use a dab of alcohol to clean off pen marks or other very dirty parts.

Mouse

a.       Dab some alcohol on your cloth

b.      Rub the mouse cord by pinching it with the cloth. Clean as much dirt from the cord as possible but be careful not to tug the cord too hard from the mouse.

c.       Now, dab more alcohol on part of the cloth.

d.      Rub the outside of the mouse. Underneath and on top. Get all the dirt out of the cracks.

e.       Remove the ball from the bottom of the mouse.

f.        Using a Q-tip or your finger through the cloth, clean out all the dirt that collects on the rollers.

Keyboard

a.       Pick up the keyboard and turn it up side down.

b.      Shake the keyboard to let dust and debris fall out of the keyboard.

c.       Now, take a brush and run it between the keys. Clean off the brush after a lot of dust collects on it.

d.      Dab some alcohol on your cloth and rub all the keys on the keyboard.

e.       Also, rub all the other areas of the keyboard and use more alcohol to get pen marks clean.
