When to use Blue Book
- When you can not solve
a technical hardware or software problem by yourself and any senior lab
aide or supervisor is not present, write your findings in the blue book.
- If you are senior lab
aide and you can not solve the problem by yourself.
How to fill out form
- Write your name, date,
and location and computer number.
- Describe the problem
clearly. Write down the whole message or error showing on computer.
- State the hardware
that isn’t working (ex. Monitor, CPU etc.).
- Write down what YOU
did to solve the problem.
Check up on existing
problems
- In order to find out
if any of the problems have been fixed, it’s important to check up on the
existing problems in the blue book frequently.
- If you spot any computer
that is fixed and still has an out of order sign on it, take the sign out,
cross out the problem from blue book and make sure you write “Fixed” on
it.
- If the problem isn’t
fixed write down “Not Fixed”, date and your initials next to it.
Copying old reports
to new page
- Check with the supervisor
before copying any thing to a new page. Most of the time they will assign
you such work.
- When copying old reports
to new pages make sure to write only non fixed problems.
- After finishing this
double check with supervisor.
