Print Station Issues

Lab aides are unable to fix problems indicated by error messages given by the print station most of the time because the problems are network related. The supervisor will be able to assist you in the following ways:

  1. Restoring Pharos’ connection.
  2. Delete print jobs in the queue.
  3. Delete print jobs that are sent to the printer.
  4. Move print jobs.

Note that supervisors only perform the above task when it is disrupting the network.

Logging in and off

The print station will automatically log in when it is turned on. However, if you wish to log out, do not press the power button. You need to shut down using the Start Menu.

To reset (restart) the print station:

  1. Hit the Windows key
  2. Click on Shut Down, then click Restart the Computer on the next screen. Windows will shut down & restart.

Note: If you click “Log Off itc” on the Start menu and click yes on the next screen, Windows will log off and go back to the Pharos welcome screen.

Pharos connection is down

  1. If the print stations are unable to connect to the server, contact the supervisors right away.
  2. If they are not around, contact Help Desk at ext. H-E-L-P to report the problem.

Print job not in the queue

  1. Check if the user has entered his or her name on the print dialog box.
  2. Check if the user got the right print station.
  3. If that does not work, have the user save his or her work and switch to another computer. Remember to put an “Out of Order” sign on the workstation and record the problem in the blue book.

Card Reader is not active

  1. Check its connection to the CPU.
  2. Unplug the cable and plug it back in again.
  3. Check the power adapter. It may be loose or detached from the socket.
  4. Contact your supervisor if all fails.
