Toner

Toner can be changed for two reasons:
- The quality of the printed materials is unsatisfactory.
- The printer shows the message, “Toner Low.”
Do not change the toner right away when the “Toner Low” message is displayed.
Take the toner out and rock it from side to side. Put the toner back in the
printer. The message should disappear and the toner should have several more
days of quality operation.
To change the toner, follow the following directions:
- Look for the printer’s model. We have a list behind the cabinet’s door
that lists all models and its corresponding rooms and printers.
- Find the toner in the cabinet that corresponds to the model number. If
the toner is not available, please contact the supervisor. They will open
the stockroom for you. We usually have extra toners available inside.
- You need to open the cover of the printer. Depending on the model you
are dealing with, the cover could be on top or at the side of the printer.
- Carefully pull the toner out of the printer and replace it with a new
one (Ask for help from other lab aides if you don’t know how to do this.).
- We recycle used toners. So don’t throw them away. Put it back to the box
and seal it.
- Put a sign that says, “Used” on the box and leave it below the front desk.
- Get a page count (Do not forget this!).
Refer to the page count section if you do not know how to do so.
- Bring the page count and the used toner to the supervisor on duty.
